Good practice dictates that you should have your chimney swept once per burning quarter, which in the UK means once or twice a year.
If you light a fire occasionally and not as a principle heating source, for cooking or as part of a central-heating system, then once a year should be adequate.
For long, regular usage, for cooking or central heating, we would recommend having your chimney swept twice a year, ideally once in the off season & once mid-burning season.
Also be sure to check with your insurer, especially if your property is listed or thatched, as regular sweeping may well be a condition of your insurance cover.
No, unless you have recent chimney sweeping certificates from the previous owners showing that any chimney and stove is safe to use, then we would strongly advise you get in touch before you light a fire for the first time.
It's always better to be safe than sorry. You would be amazed how many new homeowners are caught out by faulty, disused or dangerous appliances they've inherited with their new property.
If you're in any way unsure about your chimney or stove being safe to use then please contact us immediately.
Yes, you will receive a Certificate of Chimney Sweeping endorsed by our professional association & competent persons scheme, the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps.
As part of our certification process, we also perform visual safety checks and smoke test every appliance we clean to ensure the system is working safely & effectively.
The certificate documents how your chimney & appliance has been cleaned and any other works undertaken, issues that need resolution or vigilance as well as any advice we've provided. It's proof of sweeping for insurance & mortgage providers, potential buyers, tenants & landlords etc. where a certificate may be a condition of your agreement.
Certification gives you peace of mind that your chimney has been cleaned by qualified technicians working under an accredited competent persons scheme. Don't get your chimney swept by any business that isn't able to provide one.

Yes, absolutely we can. Smoke coming back into the room can be symptomatic of a number of issues, including lack of ventilation, poor flue design, down draught and chimney blockage.
All of these are potentially very dangerous and should be addressed immediately before you relight your fire, to ensure your safety and prevent any further smoke damage or contamination.
If your fire is working properly, you should not be able to smell smoke anywhere in your home, even in the room where it's lit. Be safe, be sure to seek guidance if you're experiencing smoky fires,.
We accept cash, card, BACS or cheque. You can find more information on payments & fees in our terms & conditions.
